Interesting as always. Is the "alternative" theory yours? Also, I'm not clear on the two half-siblings. Was the marriage free of prohibition as a result? Or was it still problematic? was it the problem or the uniqueness of the situation why it merited discussion in the Talmud?

Is the "alternative" theory yours? -yes, I came up with it. Would be interesting to know if anyone else says it.

(BTW, I just found a short lecture by Dr. Henry Abramson, “Rav Shmuel bar Marta Bava Kama 51” - Jewish History in Daf Yomi - OU Torah, where some medieval interpretations of the name Marta/Marta are discussed: https://outorah.org/p/183111.)

Also, I'm not clear on the two half-siblings. Was the marriage free of prohibition as a result? Or was it still problematic? -it wasn't prohibited in any way, since they weren't siblings through either the father or the mother.

was it the problem or the uniqueness of the situation why it merited discussion in the Talmud? -why it might have been discussed: they're a famous family, with lots of famous members
